Security Camera Subscription Cost Calculator

The sticker price of a security camera is only part of what you pay. Our security camera subscription cost calculator adds the hardware price to the plan fees you would actually hand over in 1, 3 or 5 years, using each brand’s real Australian plan prices and coverage rules — so a camera that looks cheap today cannot quietly become the expensive option by year three.

The calculator is neutral: it covers Ring, Arlo, Google Nest, Blink, Eufy, Tapo, Swann and Reolink, no brand pays to appear, and the ranking is worked out from the numbers you enter, nothing else. Brands that record locally with no plan at all are in here too, at $0 — because for plenty of Australian homes, that is the right answer.

For example a HomeBase hub, a doorbell chime, spare batteries or professional installation — enter what you would actually pay.

Your true-cost breakdown will appear here as soon as the calculator loads.

Note: this calculator needs JavaScript enabled to run. The plan prices it uses are listed in the table further down this page, so you can still do the maths by hand.

How this security camera subscription cost calculator works

The formula is the same one printed in our buying guides: true cost = hardware + (monthly plan × 12 × years), with one adjustment most calculators get wrong — the coverage rule.

  • Per-device plans (Ring Protect Solo, Blink Basic, Arlo Secure Basic for a single camera) are multiplied by the number of devices. Five cameras means five monthly fees.
  • Per-home plans (Ring Protect Multi and Pro, Arlo Secure Basic and Plus for unlimited cameras, Blink Plus, and Google Home Premium, formerly Nest Aware) are charged once per address. Adding a fifth camera adds $0 to the plan cost.
  • No-plan local recording (Eufy, Tapo, Swann and Reolink recording to a hub, recorder or microSD card) costs $0 in subscription fees for as long as you own the gear.

Hardware prices are pre-filled from the per-device prices printed in our flagship guides and are fully editable — change them to the exact model and price you are looking at. One-off extras are added once, on top of the per-device rows, and are never hidden inside the plan figures.

Plan prices used in this calculator

Plan prices checked 23 October 2026

These are the exact prices the security camera subscription cost calculator uses. Every figure below was checked against the brand’s official Australian plan or store page on the date stamped above, and the table is re-checked monthly. Prices include GST where the provider sells to Australian consumers. If a provider changes a price, the new figure appears here at the next check — tell us via the contact page if you spot a change sooner.

Brand Plan Price (A$/month) Covers
Ring Ring Protect Solo $4.95 1 device
Ring Ring Protect Multi $14.95 All devices, one home
Ring Ring Protect Pro $29.95 All devices, one home
Arlo Arlo Secure Basic — Single Camera $7.99 1 camera
Arlo Arlo Secure Basic — Unlimited Cameras $12.99 Unlimited cameras, one home
Arlo Arlo Secure Plus — Unlimited Cameras $19.99 Unlimited cameras, one home
Google Nest Google Home Premium Standard (formerly Nest Aware) $15.00 Whole home
Google Nest Google Home Premium Advanced (formerly Nest Aware Plus) $30.00 Whole home
Blink Blink Basic $4.95 1 device
Blink Blink Plus $15.00 Unlimited devices
Blink Local storage via Sync Module $0 No plan
Eufy Local storage (HomeBase / microSD) $0 No plan needed
Tapo Local storage (microSD) $0 No plan needed
Swann Local recording (DVR / NVR / microSD) $0 No plan needed
Reolink Local storage (microSD / NVR) $0 No plan needed

One honest exclusion: Tapo Care cloud plans are not in the calculator. TP-Link’s Australian Tapo Care page does not publish AUD plan prices, and we do not guess at prices — so Tapo appears with its local-storage option only, which needs no plan at all. Ring’s optional add-ons (Pro Intelligence and 24/7 Continuous Recording, charged per camera) are also left out of the base plans; add them under “one-off extras” as a monthly × 12 × years estimate if you want them.

All results are estimates based on current published pricing. Plans renew at the provider’s current rate, so confirm the price with the provider before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

How does the security camera subscription cost calculator work?

Add each camera or doorbell you own or plan to buy, pick its brand and plan, and set the time horizon to 1, 3 or 5 years. The calculator adds the hardware price to the subscription cost over that period, applying each plan’s real coverage rule: per-device plans are multiplied by the number of devices, while per-home plans are charged once no matter how many devices you add.

Which brands charge per camera, and which charge per home?

Per-device plans include Ring Protect Solo, Blink Basic and Arlo Secure Basic for a single camera — every extra device adds another monthly fee. Per-home plans include Ring Protect Multi and Pro, Arlo Secure Basic and Plus for unlimited cameras, Blink Plus and Google Home Premium (formerly Nest Aware) — one monthly fee covers every device at the address.

Can I use security cameras without any subscription?

Yes. Eufy, Tapo, Swann and Reolink cameras can record to local storage — a HomeBase hub, DVR/NVR or microSD card — with no monthly plan at all, so their subscription cost in this calculator is $0. You may give up some cloud features, but recording, alerts and playback keep working.

Are the plan prices in this calculator current?

The plan prices were checked against official Australian plan and store pages on 23 October 2026 and are re-checked monthly. Providers change prices without notice, so treat every result as an estimate and confirm the current price with the provider before you buy.

Why does adding cameras change the subscription cost for some brands but not others?

It comes down to the coverage rule. On a per-device plan, a fifth camera means a fifth monthly fee. On a per-home plan, the fifth camera adds $0 to the plan cost — only its hardware price counts. That is why a setup that looks cheaper for one camera can become the expensive option at four or five cameras.

Run the security camera subscription cost calculator with your own shortlist before you buy — five minutes here is cheaper than five years of the wrong plan.
